Darkinjung Country
Affectionately known as the ‘Tin Box’, this modest but striking new home was conceived as a lantern with high-level clerestory windows adding light & volume to the internal spaces. The home reads as a collection of boxes that have collided together. The parapet roof forms & corrugated iron wall cladding rely on window hoods that bolt onto the façade to protect the openings & control privacy & sun-penetration. These also serve as planter boxes that help soften the elevation, screen openings & feed the kitchen. The hard, outer shell of the home belies an interior with the warm, richness of clear-finish timber that at night will glow like a lantern.
