Hayes Residence - Toowoon Bay

The Hayes Residence is an exciting new project at Toowoon Bay on the NSW Central Coast that utilises many passive & active solar techniques.  The house was conceived as a self sufficient vessel floating on a grassy sea.  Lightweight materials envelope the home but a central sandstone wall acts as the building's keel & lends thermal mass to the interior, modulating the conditions.  A perfect northern orientation floods the living spaces with light & winter sun.  Sliding screens on the east & western facades allow the occupants to 'trim' the house & control the amount of light, sun & privacy they need.  An easily accessible & trafficable roof supports solar hot-water panels & PV cells as well as a rainwater header tank that is supplied by a solar pump.
