This boutique resort in Port Douglas expresses the fun & vibrancy of a holiday in the tropics as well as the clients own funloving approach to life.  Designed to allow full letting flexibity, the one-bed apartments are arranged to share a vestibule that enables them to be let either as a one or two bedroom unit.  Each unit occupies a corner of the building & promotes cross ventilation for sea breezes.  All balconies are protected by a curved roof that scoops breeze down & back in through the building.

The colour scheme was developed in association with the landscape designer to mimic & contrast the colours of the foliage.  Plant species were colour matched exactly & walls coordinated with the landscape plan to achieve the dramatic contrasts of limes & magentas.  The colour scheme became a talking point about town & polarised opinion until the landscaping was completed & the loud colours started to make sense.  The building is now universally loved by locals.

Designed whilst in the employ of Gary Hunt & Partners, the building won a commendation at the 2002 Australian Institute of Architects Awards - North Queensland, where it also took out the People's Choice Award.
