Bigini Residence

A new beach house right on the lagoon at Avoca Beach on the NSW Central Coast. Flood risk dictates that the house be 1.6m above the dune hence the tapered sand berms used around the perimeter base to visually tie the house to the beach & screen the understorey.  Tapered eaves & cranked steel posts push against the prevailing on-shore breezes that have shaped the site & surrounding landscape.  The wall addressing the street leans into the wind, mirroring the lean on the large Norfolk Island Pines that dominate the street. Lightweight materials have been selected that will age gracefully & only improve with time.  Significant townplanning constraints have made the design solution a complex process however resulting in an exciting building none-the-less.  The project successfully received Council approval.
